Feeling positive and happy can have a major impact on your academic performance – having a mentor can play a huge role in this:

  • Meet new people from your course and the University.
  • Learn more about the University and local area.
  • Gain practical advice, encouragement and support.
  • Help you to get involved with Union activities such as events and societies.
  • Sign post you to services on campus.

What you can expect

The Union Buddy Scheme is a pastoral scheme and focuses on the social aspect of studying, the Scheme is here to help you settle in and support your well-being.

First years will have access to forums in which you can communicate with current mentees, these mentors can assist you with any of the questions you may have before arriving.

First meeting:
You can expect to meet with your mentors during your induction week at Queen Mary, your mentor will help you to get to grips with the campus and all it has to offer.

Going forward:
Your mentor will keep in contact with you and meet with you periodically throughout the year. In between meetings, you can use e-mentoring in addition to the regular face to face meetings.

Each mentoring relationship is different so it’s best to talk to your mentors about the best way to keep in touch.
